Playing for Change - Unity through music

We all know that to make a better world we must start with ourselves. We know the importance of recycling, being environmentally friendly, being kind to our neighbors, and to treat everyone with respect. But can we go further? What can inspire all people to create a better world?

Mark Johnson, the co-director and producer of the ¡ÈPlaying for Change: peace through music¡É thinks he has the answer... YES we can.
His 10-year project attempts to unite people of the world at a grassroots level through music.

Obamamania

Well it is official. After a very intense Democratic nomination race, hard fought presidential campaign vs. Senator John McCain, and months of being dogged by Republican hawks, Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States this week.

All over America people celebrated, I suspect as much for the new president as they were happy that the Bush-era has FINALLY ended. In fact, Obamamania has spread around the globe and people everywhere are rejoicing and full of hope for the future.

In Kenya, parents have taken to naming their children either Barack, or Obama, or even Michelle (the first lady).

In Dubai, U.A.E. there were black tie galas held all over the city on inauguration night.

In Jakarta, Indonesians celebrated one of their own... Obama look-a-like Ilham Anas.

And in Japan, a small city in Fukui prefecture on the Japan sea coast has caught Obama fever simply because it shares the same name, OBAMA. ¾® (meaning "small") and ÉÍ (meaning "beach") .

When you hear President Barack Obama speak you can't help to feel that things will be better, even in these depressing economic times.

I am sure looking forward to seeing what this American president has in store for his country and the world. These are indeed interesting times we live in.

I leave you with thoughts of a brighter future and one of my all time favorite quotes from the now ex-president George W. Bush that sums up perfectly what his terms in office were all about...

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." - George W.
